be supposed to do:What am I supposed to do?
例如：You are supposed to shake hands when you meet someone for the first time in China.在中国你与他人第一次见面时，你应该握手。
We are supposed to be at school by 7:20 on school days.在上学的日子，我们应该在7:20之前到校。
Isn't Hong Kong supposed to be very crowded?香港不是很拥挤吗？
We are supposed to care for each other．我们应互相关心。
We are not supposed to smoke on the bus．我们不应在公共汽车上抽烟。
但这一结构的过去式was ／were supposed to do则表示“（过去）本应该如何而实际并非如此”，相当于should have done。
如：We were supposed to be here at 8：00，but we are late。=?
suppose:
一、suppose表示“猜想；认为”之意，相当于think或guess，常见用法有：
1.后接宾语从句。如：
John supposed that he could find some coins soon．约翰认为他马上能找到一些硬币。 I suppose that he is not yet twenty．我猜想他还不到二十岁。
但如果主句主语是第一人称，后面接反意疑问句时，疑问部分应与从句主语保持一致，且注意否定转移。如：
I don't suppose she will agree with us，will she？
We suppose that you can persuade him to go，can't you？
2．后接名词或代词＋不定式（不定式为to be时常可省略）。如：
We all suppose him（to be）an expert in this field．我们都认为他是这个领域的专家。
He supposed Fred（to be）best at maths．
二、suppose或supposing放在句首，表条件，引导状语从句，相当于if或in case等:
① Suppose ／Supposing the car breaks down，what shall we do？万一车子抛锚，我们怎么办？
②Suppose ／Supposing they didn't believe it，how should we try to persuade them？
suppose或let us suppose后接宾语从句。如：
①Suppose that the poor girl is your daughter．假设那可怜的女孩是你的女儿。
②Let us suppose that our classroom is equipped with air-conditioners
还可表示建议，意为“……怎么样？”或“何不……？”。如：
①Suppose we go for a picnic to- morrow．我们明天去野餐怎么样？
②Suppose we put off the meeting．我们把会议推迟吧。
